Warm up post...

Always drawing something!!!!

Character art

So I had an opportunity to do some Mickey Mouse character art. I was going out for a project with not knowing all the details...we as artists sometimes do that you know. What the client was looking for was a Mickey Mouse character artist for a style guide. Needless to say i do not have the time invested to know the nuances of Mickey Mouse as I do not draw him all day long(as style guides are what the whole company uses to do a character). I am a decent artist and draftsman but what a character artist does that specializes in a specific character is very specific. Needless to say I did not get the job:( I was bummed at first but the more I think about it the more I am thankful. I give the utmost respect to the character artists that have the dedication to draw the same character for a living...or a handful of characters for that matter. It really taught me something about myself and the way I approach a new project. I think in the future I will ask more questions and know the current level of my ability on a specific project. I am all for pushing to be better...but to compete in the big leagues with those that are the masters at what they do...you too must be a master. One day...practice makes perfect!

Today's art

Felt sick today...did this after a healing nap:) #art #illustration

Todays post..

Here we are on a Thursday. I am continuing on with my concept and will post art when I do it. I am slowly chipping away at a new phase of my life and career. What I do here is basically the tool to which I will achieve that. This character is one of the cats numerous minions.

Todays art post...

Still working on my cat piece. Lots coming:)))

Freelance...style emulation

Sometimes I get jobs that require me to style emulate. It is just one of the many tools in the box that I have to use. This is an example of said tool. Enjoy!

Warm up poses...

These are my warm up poses. I am wrapping up a rendered illustration about a baseball pitcher(posted the color study about a week ago). Should be done very soon.

Todays art fun...

Here is todays fun. My take on Davy Crockett...but modern alien hunter:)

Late night gesture drawings

So I have been on a quest. It is a quest to get better at everything I do. The gesture drawing has always been my "go to" exercise that keeps my drawing and observation skills working at their peak. These are just a few of those exercises.

Design...

My position as an illustrator has always been in me. However...my graphic design side has also been something that I have developed over the years. It seems that is this day and age of being an artist that one must have a solid grasp of multiple artistic realms if success is something that is desired. I am an illustrator by default and everything else out of necessity. Here is a piece of expression.

Character model sheet...

Put this together for my scientist character.

New sketchbook..

So I purchased a new sketchbook over the weekend. When I was in college I filled a sketchbook up about every month. I also used to carry it everywhere I went. Time to turn back the clock and start the old habit again. I am really looking to change the focus of my art and I believe that this is the continuation of that process. I know that this is the best way to go. Onward and upward!!!!

Wrapped for now...

This one is a wrap for now. It will be used in a larger piece in the future:) I have new art coming...stay posted.

Morning doodle...

I did this as a warm up this morning on the back of my note pad. Monday doodle!
