So I have been super busy and realizing some dreams but always have time to learn a little...and sketch a little. You know...to get where I need to be. If I had at least one piece of advice to give...that is to never...and I mean never give up on your dream! The only person standing in your way is you. Reach for the starts because you will reach them:)
Been super busy... always a good thing! zHere are some of my daily thoughts...
Thursday is the big day. At 5:30 pm I will be an official freelance artist for hire. Get your place in line now:)))
Always drawing something!!!!
Just some warm ups from today.
Here is today's art post. I am doing a mural this weekend so I will post from the job site!!!
Here is the update from last nights sketch:)
So I had an opportunity to do some Mickey Mouse character art. I was going out for a project with not knowing all the details...we as artists sometimes do that you know. What the client was looking for was a Mickey Mouse character artist for a style guide. Needless to say i do not have the time invested to know the nuances of Mickey Mouse as I do not draw him all day long(as style guides are what the whole company uses to do a character). I am a decent artist and draftsman but what a character artist does that specializes in a specific character is very specific. Needless to say I did not get the job:( I was bummed at first but the more I think about it the more I am thankful. I give the utmost respect to the character artists that have the dedication to draw the same character for a living...or a handful of characters for that matter. It really taught me something about myself and the way I approach a new project. I think in the future I will ask more questions and know the current level of my ability on a specific project. I am all for pushing to be better...but to compete in the big leagues with those that are the masters at what they do...you too must be a master. One day...practice makes perfect!
Keeping warm:)-inbetween the normal jobs.
This was my morning warm up...little Howdy Doody action:)
This was just a quick sketch before the end of the day. I am working on something big so stay tuned!
Here is the second sports illustration spot for an ad firm. I think I will do lacrosse next..
These are my warm up poses. I am wrapping up a rendered illustration about a baseball pitcher(posted the color study about a week ago). Should be done very soon.
So I have been on a quest. It is a quest to get better at everything I do. The gesture drawing has always been my "go to" exercise that keeps my drawing and observation skills working at their peak. These are just a few of those exercises.
