Afternoon doodles

So here is my afternoon sketch exercise. I think that I am in need of more structure. Like a series...not sure where to start. 

So I quit caffeine:((((

Yes...I finally had to quit coffee and caffeine. I quit yesterday morning. I am allergic and it has just become a crutch that i do not want anymore:) So today has been "not so nice":((( But...I will move forward and break free of the caffeine addiction!!!! Here is a sketch that has taken me all morning. The actual sketch took all of 10 minutes but, getting up the energy to do it...the focusing on what i wanted to do. Yes...all morning:( I will try to post again later but I am not promising anything.

Two for the road.

Here are two completely different pieces. I did one and then had to do another one:) I really like doing animals...especially character and expressive animals.

This is my afternoon sketch in between everything! I have sooo much to do. I sometimes take a stroll and do a quick five minute sketch. It really helps in re-focusing me.

Logo and corporate identity

There are times when I love my job and there are times when I like my job. As an artists one might assume that i am always"having fun" or that I should do art for someone because that is what I like to do. It is always work unless I am doing it for myself:)))) That being said I really like doing logos. They are easy for me and I actually like developing them. Here is a perfect example of a logo that went through many generations of changes before the client landed on a choice. this is a collection of that evolution:)

So I have been developing a dinosaur character for a while and have not really done much with him. I think it is time for a short children's story. This is the beginning of that venture:) enjoy!

Interior lighting design.

Every now and then I am asked to do something that allows me to inject my love of engineering and design with some theme and environment. I am a car guy and have been all my life. I love the design and function that incorporates so much. There are so many ways that a simple light fixture can change an environment! This is a helicopter business that has asked me to design an aviation inspired object to have in their lobby. The object I have designed is an homage to the flying machines of Da Vinci with an added aspect of industrial design. The frame is made of aluminum or steel with the wings covered in canvas. the lights are designed to mimic prop cones and are stainless steel. The wing panels act as light reflectors as well. The current view if from the floor looking up at the fixture which hangs in a round space.

So I have soooo much to do that sometimes it is best to stop...and do something totally unrelated. that is what I did today. I am a huge fan of the show Sherlock. I will probably end up doing a series of these. Maybe a montage.

Scientist alert!!!

So I will be doing a few more character studies and decided to do scientists. I have always loved Nikola Tesla. I used art reference for this one and sketched as the style dictated. I will do Einstein next:)

Tuesday....not much to say about this day. It is usually the day that art bombs hit my desk. Yes...I have already had a big bomb this morning. Alas...this is the moment I had to breathe.

Wednesday post yo ho!

Just a quick sketch in between the madness that is today!!!!! Can you say "hit the fan" boys and girls!!! I am just soooo busy:) Anyway...I always have at least 5 minutes.

Still moving along. I have blocked in the color and some tone...not sure if I am going to finish this one out. I think I will work on a few more poses to feel out the character before the commitment. Anyway...good exercise though...

Weekend blues.

So I am seeing that the weekend is not being kind tom the sketch blog. I seem not to have a lot of time to sketch or even think of sketching because of weekend adventures with the family or work. So...I think I will adjust a few things and try to for the weekend in as well. Change is sometimes painful:) Anyway...here are a couple real quick concept sketches for a baseball piece that i am doing.

Today's post is an exercise in monster-ology. When I was growing up and trying to learn to draw I always tended to give my human drawings monster elements. I always have loved to create monsters. I am building up my creature portfolio so enjoy:)))

So I wrapped up the red today. I also wrapped up a zombie piece that I have been working on for a while but cannot post till later:) Anyway...enjoy!

So I have wanted to do a "series" for a while. This is sort of the start of that. I will be doing composers. I was a music student in college and have a very good insight into who these people were. This is Beethoven. I will try to do a few heads and a few poses for each composer. Enjoy the ride:)

New digital art store is open!!!!!!

So I have wanted a digital art store for a long time. I basically have years of art that I have created ready for download and use. These files are illustration art created be me for the commercial art and illustration market. The files currently uploaded will be up there for a while and updated as they sell. All are royalty free and can be used as you like after download. I know this will be a great resource to help the smaller art department get where they need to be. Thank you for you support! Vacation is over Nancy!

Well...alas everything must come to an end. My mini vacation is over and all the work that was on hold is now beating down my door. I am now knee deep in art requests:) But for some reason I really love it when I am under the hammer:))) I thrive on the chase and the action! Attached are the "warm ups" for the day. Today is the start of a glorious week of triumph:)))) And fun!
